The year is 3024 and the modern day society collapsed, we have necromancers and basically living things can't "die" anymore. Grass can be revived, skeletons, rocks? your own skeleton? The universe isn't happy about that and they are protecting the ruins of modern day society to stop us from collecting dead bodies for research. Things can't always remain in the past.
